Tamil Cinema

The Tamil language film industry, also known as Kollywood, is among India's three largest film industries in terms of number of films produced annually. It is based at Kodambakkam in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Tamil films are distributed to various parts of Asia, Southern Africa, Northern America, Europe and Oceania.

First Tamil Film " Keechaka Vadham " directed by R. Nataraja Mudaliar , released in January 1918.

Some female Bollywood actress have their origin from Tamil, even though some of them not had their initial debut in Tamil cinema. It includes Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Sridevi and Meenakshi Sheshadri, were also considered "Numero Uno actresses" of Hindi cinema.
